New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Hong Kong’s M+ have formalized a groundbreaking agreement, marking MoMA’s first institutional collaboration of this scale in Asia. The partnership encompasses six key areas, including curatorial and conservation research, staff training, and joint exhibitions. Announced at a ceremony in New York, the deal comes as M+ navigates rising operational costs and seeks to expand its global network. The agreement grants the young Hong Kong museum access to MoMA’s extensive institutional expertise, while MoMA gains a stronger foothold in Asia’s cultural landscape. With M+ attracting 2.7 million visitors in 2022–23, this collaboration underscores the growing significance of Hong Kong’s art scene on the global stage.
